Flock: the eco-browser for social media

Thanks to my friend Tallskinnykiwi, I’ve discovered the Flock browser, which makes managing all the Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, blogs, and RSS feeds I have accounts for much easier.

The Flock browser is based on Firefox, so if you use that you should find it particularly easy to switch. I use Safari, but I think those days might be over.

Flock corrals all the different social networks and trendy websites like Facebook, MySpace, YouTube and Flickr into one browser for you to access easily. I chose the “eco” version which features news and links related to Green stuff.

I’ve just written this post using Flock’s blog feature, which lets you write a post and publish to your blog without actually going to your admin area. Though I can’t upload images — just drag and drop them.

So the image above was taken from another website while, with this image below (which is a screenshot of my writing this post using Flock — click to see fullscreen size if you want), I had to go into my regular Wordpress admin tool to upload it and then insert it.

Using Flock to write this blog post

But if you like to blog using other people’s images and videos and so on, then you’ll find the Flock tool much easier to use. Especially if you have more than one blog.

Overall verdict

Just as Mac made computers much more fun and easy — and therefore likely to be used — the Flock browser makes interacting on the web just that extra bit easier. I’m already sharing more videos and images, as well as using Facebook and Twitter, much more frequently than I used to.
