Serendipity helps your dreams along

Will you be lucky today?Luck, fate, destiny, God. Personally, I like the word “serendipity” the best: “an aptitude for making desirable discoveries by accident”, according to Dictionary.com. Making your own luck perhaps.Whatever you call it, it can be reassuring at times to think something’s helping you out, opening a door here, smoothing the way there as you head towards a dream.

Good news: The universe is on your side

Julia Cameron in The Artist’s Way is convinced serendipity is on our side as we pursue our dreams. It’s ourselves who get in the way:

“In my experience, the universe falls in with worthy plans and most especially with festive and expansive ones. I have seldom conceived a delicious plan without being given the means to accomplish it. Understand that the what must come before the how. First choose what you would do. The how usually falls into place of itself.”All too often, when people talk about creative work, they emphasize strategy. Neophytes are advised of the Machiavellian devices they must employ to break into the field. I think this is a lot of rubbish…We like to pretend it is hard to follow our heart’s dreams. The truth is, it is difficult to avoid walking through the many doors that will open.”

staying relaxed

I’ve had a bit of this, and I’ll be on the lookout for other doors. Even without proof of the universe falling in with my plans, I know that the more relaxed I am about the future, the better the present. Sounds obvious, but it’s taken me AGES to figure that one out.
