Holistic Business Networking

This is the lively and appealing new look of Holistic Business Networking.
We worked with Joy Slaughter, its founder, to get more people signing up, improve the image of the organization, and make the site easy for Joy to update.
We created a new colour scheme, redesigned the home page, and implemented a Content Management System, Wordpress, so Joy can instantly add and edit pages herself.
Old home page
This is the original Holistic Business Networking home page.
Old colour palette
- pink
- pinkish purple
- black, grey and white text (difficult to read)
What the colours say about this website
- feminine, for women only (pink)
- New Agey (reddish purple)
Goals of the redesign
- Increase the number of members signing up to the forum
- Project a more professional, successful image
- Clearly convey what Holistic Business Networking is about
A good website redesign isn’t just about making a site look good, it’s helping visitors understand what you’re about, whether what you do is right for them, and what they should do on the site once they’ve arrived.
Here’s how we’ll attract more people
- new colour scheme that conveys what HBN is about
- new eye-catching logo
- clearly show where people should click next (Enter button)
A new, powerful home page
New colour scheme
The new design uses a vibrant green colour palette to show appeal to its target audience of holistic healers and conscious businesses.
Medium greens (as opposed to lime green or army green) are excellent to use in eco-friendly or natural-oriented websites.
Green is about new growth and hope, balance and harmony.
The accents of pink make reference to health. Rosey pinks are suitable for websites that are about cosmetics or health care, as they call to mind rosy cheeks, pink lips and signs of good health. But unless your audience is exclusively women and you want to project a feminine feel, steer away from using pinks as your main colour.
New logo
The new logo is the same size as the old one, but uses colour contrast, a bold photograph of a plant, and the name of the forum in an elegant serifed font to make it distinctive.
As soon as a person arrives on the site, they will see very clearly that this is a website dedicated to Holistic Business Networking.
Focus on the most important thing on a page
Further down the page, I’ve used hot pink to draw the eye to the “Enter the Forum” button which is the key element on the page.
By using a warm colour (reds, oranges, pinks) which “advances”, or comes towards you, I’m encouraging people to look at the button and click on it.
On home pages, people often try to draw attention to everything: the newsletter signup, the headings, the logo, the latest news. When you emphasise everything, your eye doesn’t know where to look.
By picking the most important elements on the page and highlighting those, you get people going where you most want them to go.
