Primary school website design

Primary colours with a sophisticated twist

For this primary school, I’ve used what’s called a “triadic” colour scheme, meaning three colours on the colour wheel that equally apart from each other.

Triadic schemes are energetic, dynamic — suitable for a primary school.

But I’ve used darker, more subtle shades of primary colours red, blue and yellow to keep it from looking childish.

Burgundy for energy and class

Burgundy is a shade of red that tones down its boldness and power and gives it more class, sophistication. Since this school (imaginary, but based on a fantastic progressive school I went to of the same name) attracts some affluent students (not me, alas), its brand needs to reflect that.

Navy blue for dependability

The navy blue indicates solidness, trustworthiness, reliability. It says, “You can trust us with your children.”

The fonts and layout keep the overall look from being too cluttered, but clearly this site is aimed at prospective parents, not the kids themselves.
